Gilly gets into a fight with Tom, believing that he has been stealing her dolls. After they are stopped by their mother, Gilly sets a trap for when her brother tries again, and precariously stacks up toys next to another doll. That night Gilly is woken by a crash – but instead of Tom, she catches Nobody red-handed. Tom arrives just as the ghost vanishes, forcing him to take the blame when Peter and Jane come to see what the noise was. The next day, Peter punishes Tom by withholding his pocket money; luckily Gilly shares her cash with her brother. Back in Gilly’s room, the children catch Nobody stealing yet another doll. The ghost sheepishly explains how he has been taking Gilly’s toys for a friend, a ghost like him; Nobody brings her to meet the children, who are surprised to see that instead of another scruffy ragamuffin, she is a well-dressed, well-spoken little girl named Miss Beatrice Ellen. Gilly tries making friends with the new arrival, believing to be nice – but then Beatrice Ellen sneaks into Gilly’s room and spitefully pulls off the arm from one of her dolls. Nobody finds the broken doll and hides it in Gilly’s cupboard, vanishing as Tom and Gilly return. Beatrice Ellen causes more trouble: sliding Jane’s washing-up from the sink so it smashes into pieces on the floor, and pouring paint over one of Peter’s antique pictures. Gilly finds her broken doll, and when she shows Tom, he is surprised to find the arm hidden in his bedside table drawer – something strange is going on… Meanwhile, Nobody stops Beatrice Ellen’s latest antics before she can cause further trouble. Tom and Gilly confront the ghostly boy about his friend’s bad behaviour, forcing him to admit that he has been taking the blame for Beatrice Ellen’s pranks for years. But when the children decide to get rid of the spoilt little rich girl, Nobody declares that if she goes, then so will he…
